At APWG we view maths as a creative subject whereby children develop fluency, reasoning and problem solving skills. We work hard within daily lessons to encourage resilience and perseverance.

Our approach to maths enables all children to engage in opportunities that develop their curious and inquisitive nature. We are developing a mastery approach to maths teaching and learning across the federation. We believe that it is important that every child has the opportunity and time to explore a range of problems both independently and collaboratively.

We aim to equip our children with the skills and confidence to become great mathematicians through engaging daily lessons carefully planned from medium term plans created by the maths leads. Teachers break these plans down in to small steps and use a range of manipulatives, resources and activities to ensure deep understanding of concepts
